My brother who went to school there and also spent a lot of time in europe.... says that they are called frogs because they look like frogs when they get old... not because they eat frogs.

I started when we called the brit "rosbif"

Seriously I've no idea except we ate frog legs from time to time (but we're not the only eating frogs)
I remember a story saying it was related to about Clovis and the Lys flower but I've doubt it's the real reason.

I keep hearing this charge, but I'm curious; what insults has the current administration thrown France's way, aside from the Rumsfeld remark about "old Europe"? The Freedom Fries circus show ? members of Congress calling the press to show the menu at their cafeteria with the word freedom instead of French on it ?

very useful spin tactic or smokescreen : soundbites on the freedom fries, while the administration was (proven fact) lying through its teeth about Iraq, bin laden ties, WMDs ...

So while O'reilly (who never served a day in the military btw) was gleefully trampling on the graves of those who died bravely at dien bien phu or in 1940, no journalist was investigating the biased half truths of the bush administration.

BTW French Fries are not French, nor is French dressing !

I still have faith the American people and system though, and I 'm proud to call many US citizens my friends (not to mention my girlfriend who's from Seattle!)

email is not banned (even in the governement) it would be wrong especially if you look at the etymology of the word "mail"
