I go to Wal-Mart to buy some sandpaper and paint and I decide to pick up a couple tapes too....seems like they only sell CD's now.

So...where can I actually buy tapes nowdays?

8-Track or reel-to-reel?

8-tracks?   I'm not THAT far behind the times!

Just your normal, modern casette tapes.

I hesitate to go to a shopping mall or something like that because they always charge twice as much.  Does Target or K-mart still carry casettes?

Museum of Modern History perhaps? Cassettes ARE today's 8-Tracks. You my friend, are old school.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

I'm not old-school, my B-body Buick is.   I can't replace the factory radio without messing up the dimmer in the computer interface panel (wierd Buick design) so I'm stuck with the casette.    Those CD-to-casette things don't appeal to me because they cause too much clutter.

What about getting one of those portable CD players (Or Mp3 player if ya have one) And hooking it up to your car via the car lighter?

JAB expanding on what Estes said.....You can install a CD player/Mp3 player very easily into your factory system without disconnecting anything but the antenna with out almost any clutter.

It's called an RF modulator.  You take a CD Changer that's actually installed in the trunk or under a seat and hook the controller up to the antenna.  The modulator then...well...modulates the signal to an FM radio station (so to speak) and all you have to do is set it as one of your presets (if your radio has those :D )

Same goes for an MP3 player.

As far as buying cassetes try used record stores or something online.  That would be your best bet.

What do they cost?

The budget I'm willing to spend on something I might use once a month isn't very high.   Plus I'd have to buy some CD's which seem to cost more than casettes (odd since they have no moving parts).

Guess I'll try K-mart tomorrow.  Ugh, just the thought of going in there makes me feel dirtier.   If they've stopped carrying them too I'll likely just not bother....it isn't that big a deal.

I was just surprised to see that a big store like Wal-Mart apparently stopped carrying casette tapes.

J_A_B.....

i fell into that trap about 4 yeazrs ago...

tapes dont go no more sorry... best you can do is mail order or something.

i still have a casette player only in my car, i got an MP3 player, and got a $20 FM modulator tune 88.5 and good to go.

yes CD's are where it's at supposedly, but now you see why we consumers are PO'd about paying $17 for a piece of plastic that might be copy protected, and can't make a car copy.

sorry to hear about your dilema, you might want to check a used record store for tapes, though you will stil pay +$5 for a won out copy of vanilla ice there on cassette.
I don't know what to put here yet.
