P47 d11 flap bug ?
« on: October 24, 2004, 05:59:10 AM »
Do not fly it very often but  whilst in CT i suffered loss of left flap.
Damage report and visually confirmed left flap was missing.
However to fly everything was telling me the right flap was the one actually missing.
Once i had despatched the offending aircraft and had time to assess the damage, it required left aeleron all the time to maintain level flight even though by rights with the right flap down and the left missing it should have required right aeleron.
Kinda difficult to reproduce and confirm at my end though.

I think that's a bug with flaps when they get damaged while extended. No ill effects if you leave them in the position they got damaged in but raise or lower them and you get what you experienced.

The missing flap is still present and locked in the position it got damaged, just can't be seen.

Not certain, but I think this applies to all planes, not just the D11.

At least that's my interpretation of it, I could be wrong.
