X45 Joystick
« on: October 25, 2004, 02:32:51 PM »
Anyone who has one of these knows that after just a couple hours of use the stick loses its smooth feel. I found a lubricant that rocks on the X45 stick. After 3 days of use with the new lubricant it is still smooth as silk.

Thats a link for T-Lube Plus, its teflon based and works great on plastics. It's a spray based lube, but drys very quickly, doesnt attract dust and dirt either. :)

Is there an over-the-counter equivalent available somewhere? I had a bad experience with mail-order lubricants before.

You should be able to find dealers at the website. I didn't check that. I was so impressed with this can I have that I googled for the manufacturer. I have had this can for years and years, so long in fact that I dont recall exactly where I got it.

If they dont list dealers at the website you might be able to email them and get the info you need that way.

So go buy a brand new one at Best Buy, pay the 9.99 for the 2 year replacement warranty. Then when the pots or one of the many switches quit, take it back to Best Buy for a new one. Just make sure you pay the 9.99 again for another replacement warranty :)

Then on your new stick, use this lube I linked to avoid the sticking problems :)

Thanks, Elfie. That grinding plastic base is my only complaint about the X45.

Same here.... that grinding noise is irritable.  I tried AstroGlide on it....didn't help much.

Another idea, if you cant find a place to buy this particular lubricant look for another one that is Teflon based like this one.

I agree, that grinding base is most annoying

Order info can be found here.

Dux, it appears that you can order by phone. At the very least you can speak with someone at the company and find out more info.

I use Silicone Grease that I picked up in the Plumbing Department at Home Depot.  Put it on about 2 months ago, still working smoothly and squeak free.  I think I read about it on here somewhere.
I also tried powedered graphite, but it didn't last as long, and was very messy.

I removed the spring on my X45 and the grinding noise stopped.

The spring itself I believe is TOO strong, putting too much force on the plate and causing early friction.

I recommend either finding a softer, less coiled spring or cutting it.
