Host Connection Lost
« on: October 26, 2004, 06:21:49 PM »
Everytime I try to log into the game I get this message.   I can't connect to the game to save my butt.  I have McAfee virus disabled when I try to connect.    I can get to the page where it shows all the arenas.   Where the "Ping" text is, the numbers are jumping all over the place.  They climb up to say the 70's and then go down to the 30's.   Back and forth the numbers move around.     I uninstalled the game and then reinstalled it and it worked for a day then I had the same issues all over again.
Please someone hlep me if you can because I'm getting ready to quit the game if I can't play.    I'm at wits end.      I even did a system restore on my computer and that did not help.

This needs to be posted in technical support forum. That said - please post the message that you get (Is it only - Host connection lost?). Do you have ping plotter? If so then save (or screenshot) a ping to AH servers and post in tech support. Also do a run dxdiag and post results. These are the first steps and will give information for others to try to help you

Lastly...did this machine work with AH2 before? Has this problem only recently appeared?

I posted in the wrong forum again!   Sorry about that.    Yes the game worked fine with AH2.   It seems within the last three weeks that I have been having troubles.

Heres what I am going to try to do to solve my issues.

Uninstall the game
uninstall direct x
uninstall my vid card and drivers.

reboot machine
reinstall everything that I uninstalled and see where I stand as far as connection issues.

I have called my ISP (adelphia power link) and they have ran ping traces to my modem and reported no problems.  There are no outages in my area.  I do not use a router.   I really think I may have corrupt files or something along those lines.   I am not computer savvy but I will try to do my best to fix this on my own.  I was just hoping someone may have had the same problems and may have an answer.
Thank you for your response I appreciate it very much. :aok

Probably spyware/malware programs causing it.  Look at your processes list in the task manager and note the CPU usage when no programs are running.
It should bounce around from 0 to 1 or 2 percent.  If it is doing more than that, then it is a good indicator something else is chewing up CPU cycles.

Also note how many processes running.  In a decently setup system, it should be around 19 to 20, or so.

You may have inherited an IP address from some Kazaa user, which will cause no end of troubles for a day or two.  Try shutting down and rebooting in the hopes of getting a different IP address.

Also note your ISP will lie to you about troubles.  Run a Ping Plot to 216.91.187.39 and see what it yeilds.  Let it run for about 5 minutes or so.
