RAMALLAH, West Bank - Palestinian Authority President Yasser Arafat was critically ill, and three senior Palestinian officials formed a special committee to oversee Palestinian affairs while he recovers, Israeli and Palestinian officials said Thursday morning.

Now for the really important news:

SAN FRANCISCO (AP) -- Giants slugger Barry Bonds' 700th home run ball drew a top bid of $804,129 Wednesday after a 10-day online auction.

I think the MidEast, and the people of Palestine, will do much much better with him gone.  They'll finally be one less obstacle to some level of peace.

I thought about that as well. I don't think he can be replaced by someone who can so easily distance himself from the violence he at the very least condoned if not encouraged. Arafat is an incredibly clever and dangerous man who managed to make alot of people perceive him as peaceful and victimized. Maybe the new management will get caught dealing under the table, maybe not.

For someone who ordered the murder of Olympic athletes, and allowed Palestinian children to die senseless deaths for his 'cause', it a tragedy that he lived so long.
