Graphics weirdness/crashes, need help
« on: October 28, 2004, 12:06:12 PM »
Lately I've been having problems with my computer crashing in an odd way.  The screen just goes white and the computer locks up.  Sometimes there's a checkered pattern of small colored squares on a white background that appears instead of a solid white screen.  Restarting gets rid of it, but sometimes it happens again.

At first I thought it was related to my video card.  Updated drivers, problem still happened.   Maybe a temperature problem, so I threw more fans into my case.  No dice; it happened again last night.  ASUSprobe says temps are fairly normal in the case, with the processor running at 42 C and the MB at 25 (with the new fans in there).

I'm out of ideas besides doing a reformat and reinstall, which is just a shot in the dark.

Any help would be appreciated.

AthlonXP 2200+
Asus a7n8x deluxe
GF4ti4200
Windows XP with SP2
512mb of pc2700 memory

augh the dreaded white screen of death...

Driver problem , dx corrupted ,power supply dieing, video card worn out or overheating ,and last but not to be dismissed is a possiability of bad ram.

try turning off all the extra fans and run a house fan blowing into it . if it runs ok then its most likely the power supply.

also check that All the fans turn easy , arnt draging ,and are working smoothly .

Don't think so.  i get that too, but the system recovers within 2 to 5 seconds.  It runs fine after that.  It happens everytime I play, but only one time for every startup.

Bad ram or undervoltage condition will cause that . Not always but most of the time .

also irq's that share at the same time you start a program can collide sort of and cause problems

Thanks for the pointers, guys.  Now is there any way to find out which of those it is?
