The Bush Pledge: This can't be serious, can it?

I find this just plain creepy:

One Nation Under Bush
At a campaign rally, Republicans recite the "Bush Pledge."

PORT ST. LUCIE, Fla.—"I want you to stand, raise your right hands," and recite "the Bush Pledge," said Florida state Sen. Ken Pruitt. The assembled mass of about 2,000 in this Treasure Coast town about an hour north of West Palm Beach dutifully rose, arms aloft, and repeated after Pruitt: "I care about freedom and liberty. I care about my family. I care about my country. Because I care, I promise to work hard to re-elect, re-elect George W. Bush as president of the United States."

Here's a link to the full story, if you're interested: http://slate.msn.com/id/2108852/

Funny, I could say that pledge and change the end to "work against the re-election of George Bush" and it still has accurate meaning for me.    I could say it, but I wouldn't.     Just goes to show you there are two sides to every divisive issue, and also the meaninglessness of such political rhetoric.    Who doesn't care about family, country, freedom and liberty?    Its almost to stupid for words.

Agreed. That is ridiculous.  I think most Americans do care, except for the extreme left and right.  And on that note, my "Piss off a liberal, work hard and enjoy life" bumper sticker just arrived!

Hmm. Echos of leaders long dead and gone...

Sen Pruitt wasn't using his head. I'm sure somebody squared him away.
