I have mixed feelings re. the new patch. I somehow get the feeling that all the new high texture rides being released will do nothing more than cause my fps to stutter and suffer all the more. I'm torn. On the one hand, I get a new rice burner to whack lala's with, but on the other I'm scared my connection will get all "stuttery" like.

(sigh) sux being poor. (darn you soon to be exwife! and darn you lawyers that cost me $40,000)

You control the texture resolutions on your front end, and can disable all but the default textures if you need/want too. Nothing to fret about:D

you can still view the skins too, just load them in memory, and go to video settings and check do not load other's skins, this way you see all the skins but you do not get the constant skin.res updates while flying....

got rid of the patch, havent redownloaded it yet.

so i take it theres still problems with it?

im not downloading this one until i have too.

He's not talking about v2.00 Patch 11, he's talking about v2.01 with the new higher poly count Ki-84, B-24 and T-34.

Skins are the biggest waste of memory in this game. Who can tell what skin a 190 has when you are merging at 500MPH? I have enough trouble keeping the icon in view in a dogfight. I've never had time to stop and say "Wow, that's a great job somebody did on that pony skin". If I can see their paint job clearly it just means they are about to die from Hizookas up the 6 at VERY close range. At that point I could care less what paint job they are sporting.

Just my 2 cents.

It is true that in many instances, you dont think you can 'see' the skin detail, but you do. A good fight will often end with you VERY close to the prospective victim, and formations of your squadmates will certainly look good. There is a big diference when your 200-300 out and you see 128 textures -vs- 512 or 1024....at least at 1600x1200 resolution:D

Besides....It will make movies look much better, and provide that eye candy to draw in fresh meat...I mean new customers....yea CUSTOMER hehehe

I think the skins are neat and I 've chosen a couple of cool skins for some of my fav rides, but yeah, window dressing, makes not an iota of real difference in the game for me, but neither does shimmery water. It does give people another reason to remain immersed in and have a little "ownership" in the game and I would imagine it's satisfying to the "reality" guys out there so it does serve a purpose overall, I guess.

Window dressing is good.

I like to look out of the cockpit at a nicely painted hi-rez wing.

Window dressing it is, but it adds by sneaking up on you. If your flyin a skin, choose the default and go for a flight.

If the skins are unimportant to you, you can turn them off so that only the defualt skins are used. That'll save you memory. You can also turn down the resolution on the textures down to 128x128 and save even more memory.

HTC doesn't force the memory usage on you.

Well I can ussually tell what version of an aircraft I'm flying against by the skin they have, those of course that have many versions inside the game I.e. the Pony and 109. So, I can tell what sort of enemy and what tactics I need to use to defeat it, and I have a 15 inch monitor, and I wear glasses( you should know by now

)

So skins are cool and everthing is cool just don't feed the fish sausage too much and they won't die.

Does that make any sense? no and so does this thread.

Anyone know if my JG1 G-6 skin made it in the game?

I think it’s listed under Batz.

I deleted all my AH stuff including my skin templates and SS of the skins I did.

If anyone can posy a Hi-res screen of it I would be grateful.
