The main knock against the 05 Mustang is it has the Ford 4.6 V-8.  This is a reliable enough engine (the thing is practically indestructable), but it acts more like a 4-banger.  It has a reputation for not making its power until curiously high revs for a V-8.

Upon looking it up--

320 lbs torque @ 4500 RPM for the '05 Mustang

330 lbs torque @ 2400 RPM for my LT1 Buick, more typical of an 8.

Yeah, I'd think the Stang is plenty fast, but it probably drives more like a 4-banger--gotta keep it in higher RPM ranges.  Certainly the other 4.6 Fords drive like that (lord knows I've driven enough of them).  Nothing's perfect...guess that's what the 5-speed is for.  I'd buy one if I was in the market for a weekend car.   Best-looking car Ford has built in a REALLY long time.

Well, the R32 is a highly refined pocket-rocket. However, it's too pricy for the level of performance. Both the Evo and WRX Sti offer more performance for less money. For about the same cost of a standard WRX, you can get a well equipped 2005 Mustang GT. In terms of cool, the pocket-rockets can't hold a candle to the new Mustang. As to performance, the Mustang is quicker than the WRX, although not as good on bad roads. Sometime this coming spring, the Mustang SVT will arrive in showrooms, with 400 hp. I'd buy the Mustang (and I own a WRX).

yea widewing, the r32 is a bit heavier than id like it to be for the power it has.  im really leaning towards the stang, but im kinda torn between it and just putting some cash into my current car.  can get the IS300 up there in power with the right turbo kit, but the kit i want(would put it to 400hp) is about 7k.

Reviews I've read say the Mustang suspension works very well - close to a sports car feel. I saw a preview of the TV spot soon to air and if that is indicative of how the exhaust is really tuned you won't be able to resist the Mustang. You don't get GPS and climate control in the Mustang, and the interior looks very retro - but its about the baddest ride you can get for under $25K.

Gunslinger, don't feel bad. At least you won't be a human night light when your retired.

E-7 in seven.... I joined the wrong branch!  Very nice, Killnu.  I got out as an E-5 in '94 with six years between the Air Force and Army.  After a ten year break, I decided to go back in the reserves as a very old E-4.  Got my E-5 back pretty quickly and am about to pin on O-1.  And, yes, I will be a really old O-1!

edit:  go with the Stang, or mod your IS.

Look at the Pontiac GTO before you get anything.  Test drive it even if you don't like the looks so much.  Then decide.
Everyone I know, goes away, in the end.
