Shane,

Have you played with the Ki84 patch 1 yet? If you have, how is it in terms of us average mortals for day to day tooling around?

You didn't ask me, but your answer is this:

No but I get my arse kicked alot by shane in unequal match ups of his choosing. So I trust his opinion in terms of the usability of this tool, not whether it got modeled to his satisfaction. It's obvious you are not happy. I just wanted some feed back from someone who cleans my clock when he's in a Wildcat and I'm in a D9.

I cant dig it. we have a late war production plane that uses 1942 prototype test data!

well, i flew the frank earlier this afternoon, racked up some kills.

a spit5 will eat it for lunch.  it's not all that fast as some have mentioned (i'll still take it over a niki any day - the guns are nice).

it gets pretty slushy at higher speeds.  the rollrate at any speed is nothing remarkable.  it climbs very nice, has decent acceleration, especially downhill (which isn't always a good thing, but great for low level turn fights).

i'd put the frank somewhere around the niki/spit9 level of performance, but better than the tony.  nothing remarkable. it'll be a middle of the road ride in the MA.

frankly (heh) i'm a little disappointed overall, it's a nice ride but not a "wow" ride, but who knows, it may get tweaked further.  i was expecting something faster - some have made reference to this being modeled on a prototype, as opposed to production which had a better engine.

it'll be a nice complement to the CT. it'll be interesting to see how it does vs the cats and hogs, as well as the other allied rides. (we need more army-based CT pac setups).

there are also a few good writeups/info in the KI-84 speed?? thread at the top of page 3

If you can get the Ki84 into flaps its going to own most planes. Other than the likes of the Spit5 or the Zeeks, and a few others... In a low speed all out stall/turn fight, its going to own with someone that knows how to fly it.

Urchin and I were messing around with it against popular MA rides. We were very surprised to say the least as to what we found it can do at low speeds.

Best you keep it at or above 180mph when flying against it. If you get slow and let it get flaps down, prepare for the worst and hope for the best.

I flew it almost exclusively last night and I must say I love it and I didnt even have the patch. Spit5 were a problem. I was testing out its low speed handling and I like the control I had. The flaps come out at to low of speed but I'm not an expert so I dont know what speed they should come out at. Its a beast in the vert. Endless loops like a n1k. At high speeds its mush. Guns are great. I also rate it around a spit9/n1k performer

Good info!  This is a nice example of how to objectively review an aircraft.

Thanks guys :)

Only flew it for a bit but I found the Ki84 quite good.  The climb exceeds what the rate of climb guage can indicate (only goes to 4k per min) - the implications of that alone are obvious.  You can't spray and pray - but fired within effective range the weapons most often reward you with an exploded enemy plane.

Drew out some fights to test it (and this was before power was fixed) and the niki couldnt keep up with it in the vertical and couldnt out corner it slow - KI84 respond WONDERFULLY to throttle inputs.  Eats 190's alive with far better acceleration. Avoids overshoot very very well, pull throttle it slows down real nice - add power its takes off like hotrod.

I was flying it with 50% and 2 DT's (which I would shed during first slow turn) and ran outta cannon always before fuel.  This plane is going to do very well in the MA I bet it makes top 4.

I flew it once last night. It did seem slow...but I didnt know how to read the gauges so I have no clue to how fast I was. Guess I could have used e6b.  Guns seemed good, but not lot of cannon.

One thing I couldnt tell if flaps came down...seemed very quiet. Maybe its my sounds. Maybe they didnt come down. Another thing, it sounded like i was stressing it at a normal dive of most other planes in the MA. I will try it out in the DA to see how it does in slow fights. It seemed to handle poorly if fast. So im hoping flapped slow it floats like the AW ki84 did.

I thought the same thing but Mitsu posted the deployment speeds from the Ki-84 manual and they're dead on.
