spontaneous combustion!?
« on: November 01, 2004, 07:51:56 PM »
Just a few minutes ago, Curval, Duncey, and myself join in a B24 trio for some casual bombing.  After bombing a city facility, and an Ack factory, we decide to rtb.  During our RTB, I encountered random damage.  It sounded like .303s and 20mm randomly pounding my formation... only the lead buff took damage.  Eventually one engine caught fire, and I lost a drone.  Another player got credit for my demise.  We were nowhere near any enemies while RTB.  A few minutes later, my second drone gets it.  Then, later my last catches fire and explodes randomly.  The same player got credit for all three random deaths.

I filmed almost the entire sortie and I will post it and/or submit as soon as possible. Very weird.

holy crap thats bad....

timeing of the "passes" seem to me to be real, so im guessing another buff getting attacked on the map didnt get damaged AT all yet you was taking his damage maybe...who knows...

seems to be ALOT of new bugs in here involving bombers, and all the old ones still there

Sounds more like the bug alot of people got when patch 11 first came out where you would see the dot off in the distance but never close with it.  The enemy plane would remain invisible to you but could close with you and attack you and you'd never see it.  Had something to do with variance if I remember right?  Relogging fixed it, have no idea what caused it.  Sounds like the same thing.

Thats close to the top of the list on wierdest things I've seen in AH.

I had something similar happen to me in AH1. I was RTB in a 51, and out of no where started taking damage. Thought maybe a train, but not at 15k. Then Poof, im dead and someone got credit for it. I wish I still had the film, id post it. It was very similar in nature to this one.

btw, in the film I had as it is in this one, there were NO enemies logged as being in the area as you can see who is near you at the right of the film viewer.

Deffinatly weird. Im curious to hear what HTC thinks about this film.

Blimey.. had the same thing happen to me.. bullet impact sounds but no visible con.  Took out 2 of my drones and wasted me over what appeared to be 3 passes.  Have a bit of film near the end if it's usefull.

oddness

Not just Buffs.
Had a squaddie get killed in T34 near a town, he ups from the VH in a Tiger few secs later same guy takes out his track. At least a 5 minute drive to the town.
Sounds like BIG BIG lag to me.

I dont think it was lag.

An hour ago I received credit for a random player while on climbout in a Ki84... recently rolled and again not near any enemies.

We did some bomber shoot down training in ma, i schot at a squadie who was in bomber formation and was wondering why he didnt fire back.
Later he stated he did not see me, i flew circles around his last bomber and he still did not see me. I logged out and in again and all was back to normal.

So the invisible planes give a show again?
I had a P47 ... maybe it was a late modell, i think in the 80ties they had camoflage paint to disguise from radar.

similar thing happened to me in a niki, i thought - that's weird -and let it go.

anyway was sadlled up close on a p47s six, and letting him have a few rounds - i was under d400 - anyway i go to bank and can't do it...look out left side - 1/2 wing gone...

no damage sounds....just gone..lol

then as i'm falling away from the p47 the right wing goes - ...

now this is the odd thing - just wing tips - breaks right past the outter cannons.
Anyway - i ended up leveling it with rudder - dropped flaps and landed it :) clipped wing nikik I guess..lol

Duncey and I were in tight formation with Octavius.  I flimed the incident too, but only have two of the three blowing up.

When Oct's third plane blew I was within 400 yards of his plane and just above him.

No way it was an invisible fighter.  I didn't get pinged once and I don't think Duncey did either.

If it was me in a fighter and I realised the other buffs in tight formation weren't firing...and not a shot was fired from the planes I shot down, you can bet all 9 planes would have been my kills.

By far the strangest things I've seen in AH.

Maybe Sceva saw your bomber in another place?? kinda like the split personality CV a few days ago, that was somehere else for some players...

Happened to me when we practiced carrier landings one day. For me it looked like my squaddies landed 700 yds away in midair.

FWIW, it happened to me and another fellow in the CT last week.   I got shot down by someone I could not see, during the "fight" and in the film also.

Film was sent to HTC.

Hasn't happened to me in the MA though.

for all we know it could be some buggy client code, that means the plane WAS there shooting you down, but the server wasnt sending the message out right..

kinda like the collision code being messed up.......
