You may have already checked on this, but have you worked around your firewall?  AHII already had full permission on my set up.  Everything downloaded and installed, but when I went to connect online, it wouldn't connect and then locked up when I cancelled the connect screen.  Finally, I went into my firewall, deleted the AHII permission line and then added it again so that full permission was granted after the upgrade.  All is well now.

You should seriously consider tranquilizers.  Really.  In case you didnt notice, theres about 30 or 40 people posting in various parts of the BBS about various problems they have or gripes they have with the new setup.  You posted, nobody saw it.  They will, sometimes it takes longer than others.  So if you want to move things along, email Skuzzy directly.  The techsupport email addy IS listed several places.  I dont blame them for not publishing a phone number.  Otherwise they'd have half-cocked belligerent flyboys calling them all day.

Now, as to your problem.  Depending on your firewall, it could be a culprit.  You didnt say if you checked that or not like the previous poster suggested.  Even though coincidence is a ***** sometimes, did you check your internet connection to make sure your throughput is good?  Given the fact that you are only running a P3, if your connection slowed down alot it might take awhile to process the download.  Hell, I'm running a 2 Ghz Athlon and the first part of the download hangs for awhile.  Did you walk away for awhile and leave it to see if it really is locked up?  I've found more than once downloading big files that some parts go slower than others.  The internet has been crazy the last couple of days as well with it being election time.  Last but not least, did you read that they were having server problems earlier?  Dont know what server the download is on, but its possible you were trying to download when their server was experiencing problems.  Might want to check that.

These are just basic suggestions I can think of off the top of my head.  Maybe we're in luck and one of them helps you.  If not, and no one else responds, try email.  But seriously, going off on the people you are asking for help, not a good idea.  Good luck.

Thanks that's a big help! After I posted I figured I would get a smart prettythang answer like that.. I also must admit I was a bit unhappy when adding a patch to a WORKING program kills it. I had such a bad experience with brand "WB" that it just kinda brought back bad memories.
The hole "Locking up Windoze" thing is kinda of a pain in the butt.  It porked  it up so bad that I had to reload Windoze just to get my system to work again. Going to my happy place didn't seem to work as I waited the 2 hours to reload all my other programs as a result of the patch.
It's not my firewall or router as I removed both of these, and had the same problem. as a matter of fact,I never get to the point where I get a chance to connect to the game. It does the "loading skins" thingie before the main menu that it locks up. But oddly enough, it runs okey on my slower system.
I do thank you for your help, I know other people are having problems but Hitech a gets PAID to resolve these issues so as a paying customer, I don't feel sorry for him.

Actually, we do publish our number.  It is on our WEB site in the section "About Us".  817-251-1540  The FAX number is there as well.

During the skin cache generation there is not much going on other than the conversion of textures to the cache file.  Basic file I/O and some math.  Could be as simple as a soft read or write error on the hard disk, which we cannot correct, nor be able to detect from a remote support session on a bulletin board.

You could try removing the 'cache' folder, which forces a rebuild of the cache on the next startup.  And there really is nothing the game can do, on its own, that would force the operating system to need to be reinstalled.  The possibility exists that the game could run into a pre-existing problem and aggrevate it.

That is about the best guess I can make without a considerable amount of detail about your computer.

As far as support goes, email tends to be faster and better for many situations.  Support email gets a 24 hour turn around, except on holidays and weekends.

If the above does not work, then would you mind sending in a DXDIAG output?  The instructions for doing so are in the "Hints and Tips" section at the top of this forum.

Hehe.  Slot, if you expected a smartprettythang answer, then you are on your way.  Sorry.  I did time as a tech support guy way back when and it still irritates me today when I see people who want help kick the door in and start issuing ultimatums.  I dont even want to be in Skuzzy's shoes.  Believe me though, its a common problem in the world of online gaming.  I can think of at least two other games I play online that have put out "patches" in the last year or so that have made the games unplayable for me, at least for a short time.  In one case it was 6 months.  And their tech support pretty much told me "too  bad, wait for the next patch".  Not that I'll name any names ATARI but Ive seen what BAD tech support is like.  Wanna have a hard time trying to find a phone number that talks to a person?  Try to find theirs.  And 24 hour turnaround for tech support emails?  Forget it.  Add to that the fact that alot of games these days are made by several different companies working together, and all of them blame the others when a problem comes up "we dont handle technical issues, email so and so..........oh I'm sorry thats not our department, you need to talk to .........."  If you see me up, I'll give you a pass to the head of the line to shoot me down.  :D  Good luck with your problem.

I was gona edit my 2nd posting before anyone could see it but I was a bit too slow. I din't like the way it read after some time passed.  As I kooled down from the System Crash, I decided get off my huffy bike and grow up (when yor my age, thats a tall order). It's seems that not only have I been able to get the game running now, but it seems the intermittent system crashing has stopped as well.
I have to deal with customers every day myself. Sometimes I catch my self treating others like some treat me when they got problems.
Thanks for trying to help, I'm sorry for any hard feelings. I love the new water effects and stuff added as a result of the patch.
IMHO when they stop making patches for a game it is doomed! keep them comming!

Thanks Again!

so what did you do to fix your problem...

I too had to reinstall my winblows2000pro.
and some missing .dll's after the reinstal...
reinstalled aces high 2.01, and directx 8.1 and dx9.0c
and all my sound drivers and my videocard drivers and
on and on.
 im still at a loss.
game still wont start..after new update..after re-installing everything that coinsides with AH2 and etc.
by the way... i dont care to read about your pissy attitudes in a forum that needs only professional replys to honest problems.
Mom used to say: "Take it outside boys!", which i wish some of
you boyz would do!
Leave the forum for answers ..or others tend to get just as assenine as you two have been.

Aphelion, email me a DXDIAG output and I'll be happy to take a look.  More than likely you probably need to update the video card driver, but I'll know more when I see the DXDIAG output.
