An extra gerbil (or two) for the KI....
« on: November 01, 2004, 04:17:00 PM »
Since it's 4:10PM or so in TX I dont think we're gonna see a fix on the Ki power band issue today. Truthfully I'm a bit suprised it doesn't have WEP either. As much as I've always felt the Nikki is way overmodeled I'm suprised how undermodeled the Ki seems to be...all in all the Ki-61 is a clearly better plane (least till the power issue is resolved)....doesn't feel right somehow...I always felt the nikki was the heavyer more "B&Z" type ride historically, based on obviously limited time in the thing its stiffer and less nimble than expected.

in pyro's post in the other thread you posted in, he said it is not making full power, meaning not getting high enough to engage WEP.
I don't know what to put here yet.

He also said it didn't have WEP.

Actually I read his response to indicate that it isnt modeled with wep. I'm not sure if my "questions" are power related entirely otherwise I'd of left it with other thread...not trying to duplicate the "speed" thread. The plane simply doesn't seem to perform well overall. Seperate from top end speed...handling, E retention, stall charactoristics (sp?) all seem pretty poor vs my "expectations"...it feels like a hvy B&Zer...not what you'd expect based on what you read...now its possible power curve patch will fix I guess...

If so, WEP on the N1K2-J should be disabled, right?

No, he said that the Navy ran the engine at higher power settings for short periods or some such.

It's right...but Army was supplied that engine (HA45-21) from 1944.

Mostly NIKI must NOT be overmodeled.
