"Kieffer" Snapshot Thu November 11th 2004

Hello Gents and Ladies!

Next week's thursday snapshot is "Kieffer", a historical mission on Kanttori's awesome FinRus terrain.  The event starts in the Special Events Arena at 21 central european time, that is 3pm eastern time.  Come to the arena 15 minutes early.

Here is the historical background:

Quote
Sunday, August 29th 1943.

The German ship group "Kampfgruppe Kieffer" was guarding the sea mine field "See Igel" between Suursaari-island and the coast of Estonia.

Then they came. Out of the sun as usual. Sturmoviks.

Escorted by fighters, even though there was not a German fighter in sight, the ground attack planes started their dives, into the hellfire of anti aircraft fire. With deadly precision the Soviet bombs found their mark, damaging the ship group heavily.

The attackers vanished to their bases. Badly damaged, unable to continue its mission, Kampfgruppe Kieffer started the long journey towards the Finnish port of Kotka.

But the day was not over yet...
