Thanks for THAT wasted 4 min of my life.  D/L'd that whiney, annoying song and got the lyrics.

Sooo... best song ever?  (sigh)  Lyrics weak, singing reminiscent of a sick cat, no real thought had gone into the music, so sorry, that's not even the top 1,000,000 best songs.

Durn you guys.  Ears almost started bleeding.

Heh, I think Radiohead are amazing (peaked at OK Computer), but I can totally see how someone could listen to it and have that reaction. I guess it's an aquired taste.

I was just listening to "Hail to the Thief" when my alarm clock radio faded in with the Bush victory speech, and I have the windows open with a very loud thunderstorm going on outside.  I should have recorded it.  :)

I think Hail to the Thief is as good as anything they've done.  The last 6 songs are incredible, up there with Floyd in their prime.  Kid A was solid too.  Some of the experiments on Amnesiac are hard to listen to though.  At least with a Radiohead album you can be sure that two songs in a row aren't going to sound the same.  :)

Yeah.... it's prolly not fair of me to say that they peaked at OK Computer. I had to buy Hail to the Thief three times cuz I lent 'em out and never got them back. But it's more like, I appreciate what they're doing on the following records, but still hold out hope that they'll strap their fenders back on and rock like in the olden days.

Btw., the scene you described above is one of the most haunting things I think I've ever heard.

Yeah it was more cool than haunting.  I was sort of spaced out playing a strategy game listening to that album.  Then the storm started and I opened the windows to listen.  Then I went back into game-trance.  I had set the alarm to remind me to go to a meeting, then it went off.  I was listening to all three for a few minutes before I came out of it.

Yeah, it's all good.

I went back and tried to find the thing that I'm talking about, and mostly it hearkens back to The Bends.

About a minute-fifty into 'Just' is one of the greatest moments. It's like dueling banjos, or bait and switch. Guitar lead, nice, time for the chorus, oh wait, more guitar work, okay bring it home, but NO! They're not giving up! THEY'RE GOING FOR IT! Another lead follows and absolutey crushes.

Or 'the Bends'. The thing that happens a couple of minutes into it, and continues about a minute later. It's got the sort of urgency that brings to mind The Clash. You can't put your finger on it, but you sense that something important is happening.

Finally, 'Paranoid Android' off of OK Computer. It's just one of those songs that, when it happened, changed things. For example, it completely destroyed TON of decent bands like REM etc. who tried to reproduce it and all ended up falling on their faces.

Glad ya posted this Funked.... Sure is cool going back and listening to them again.
