game NOT starting up!
« on: November 03, 2004, 06:17:40 PM »
after installing the new direct x drivers 9c...my game will not start up...also after a couple of microsoft new updates...which one i cant remember....but it seems the direct  x was the blame.
Upon starting the game i got a .dll problem, and it said it couldnt find ddentry1 in the gdi53.dll libraury.
i visited a forum and it said to find the d3d8thk.w** something..and rename it to d8dthk.dll and put it into the
C:/winnt/system/system32 folder...and i did and it got the game splash screen to show, but goes to a white out screen then back to my desktop but resets my res from 1----by 7---= 32 bit color to:
800by600 16 bit color.. but the game still dont start up.
I have exhausted all efforts..and no help at microsoft.
Some forums say that the download at microsoft says the new directx9.0c is for xp/2000 etc. but only downloads for xp and i have win2000pro. and you cannot undelete the direct x from your registry..but we did with a removal tool.
i am at a loss. someone said you have to reformat your harddrive to fix it..
any help is wanted.
al in trouble... i can t Playyyyyyyy

You have a mess on your hands.  First, you cannot cleanly remove DirectX without causing problems.
Second, simply renaimng a file to correct the extension is a sure sign of badly installed software, which will have ramifications far reaching past a simple rename wil cure.
The gdi53.dll is part of Windows by the way.

By the Aphelion,  you have posted, in some form or another, this same post in several threads.  You do not need to do that.  Simply be patient when you start the thread.
We will get around to answering.

I guess the trouble is more in the GDI32.dll
Right ?

If so try to upgrade your video drivers and please post here your video card type.

whew...
 It is working..
I deleted my video drivers. and re-installed them.
I also added my sound card ...which was deleted when
i re-installed win200pro.
Then i re-named that .w** to .dll and put it in the
C;//winnt/system/system32 and that did help.
 I re-installed the new direct x drivers..c..and
got a splash screen then the white screen.
THEN IT WORKED.. Cause aces high2 need to have the
sound working to start up..
Yeppers.. i had a mess and spent 8 hours trying to figure it out.
(by the way..this is aphelions dad...i used his signon to post my
worries.)
By the way.. it took almost 30 seconds once that white screen
showed up for the game to finally start...but after re-booting again after the game started..the next time i started windows,
aces high 2 started up really fast and i was..and am...one happy
flyer now!
Thanks for the help tech guys...but that mad mess i had was
always under controll.. i just got tiard of pluggen on this n that.
so in detail..the easiest thing to do if it wont start up is to:
1. besure your videocard is up to date and you dont have two versions in your device manager like i did.
2. when  you delete aces high 2 to re-install it, besure you dont have the old version in your AH folder...delete that also.
3. make sure your sound card is working first and farmost of anything..AH 2 needs to see it upon starting the game or it wont start up..
4. when you upgrade to the new direct x  9.0c ..go ahead..that is NOT the problem. Just install it over the old dx.
5. Dont post stupid stuff like i did when you get no results..
6. reboot after installing or removing from your computer.. it helps
to get the new .dll's in that way.
7. If you have re-installed your windows system...and have alot of .dlls missing upon re-starting your machine. have your windows cd handy and just look for them on the cd..its easier than getting them off the internet.
GOOD LUCK and guys... the new patch is NOT the problem..
ITS YOUR COMPUTER AND THE WAY YOU JACK IT UP...(like i did.)/.
