How do you like it now?
« on: November 08, 2004, 09:20:43 AM »
I think the Ki84 is the best thing to happen to the CT since I started in AH last Feb. The model we have may indeed be an early prototype, but I dont care its a heck of a lot better than the Ki61 IMO but then again I'm biased, I hate that POS.

The 84 is a great match for the F4U-1, and I suspect it will be just as good a match for the -1D. The -1 is faster OTD but accelerates very sloooooowly so the Ki84 can get away in the short term, which is usually all you need. More importantly that acceleration advantage over the -1 makes it a good match in a fight.

I must say that (unlike in the past) I will now look forward to (not dread) mid/late war Pac setups.

I agree Grits,
been having a blast in the CT last couple of nights.

The F4U1 and the KI84 make for a good match up. Each has different strengths, and almost turns a fight into a chess game.

Gotta give the edge to the Hog though, all in all. (Just mho)

Cheers,

Yeah, the F4U has much better survivability after you ram that Ki-84... :aok

I think its a nice addition.  We've been missing some alternatives in the Japanese planeset, and this is a nice one to have.  Once they get the kinks ironed out it will be even better.  I still prefer my Ki-61 though.  I mean really.  Just look at the beautiful bullet nose and clean lines of the Tony.  Then look at the big honker on the Frank and hell, they even had to tie the tail on!  :D

Its called being agressive, not only am I usually in the inferior plane but often I have to chase my opponent either to his home field ack or fleet ack before he will engage!

Unless he's got 5k plus alt on me then he'll first blow a couple passes then run to his field or fleet before engaging.

There are very few who even attempt to turn n burn any more.

What I found interesting is that the P-38 can effectively engage and turn with the Frank: it doesn't dominate the battle. The Frank can use it's turn and climb rate to rope or extend against it. Fairly even IMHO.

On a side note. no matter what IJN/IJA plane set we have, the speed advantage will ALWAYS be with the USAAF and USN aircraft. It was a fact all Japanese pilots had to face and work with during WWII.

That being said, I think moving forward to 44/45 setups, the Frank and George will compliment one another to effectively enage any P-51/P-47/F4U series aircraft.   Pilots who want to hit and run will ALWAYS hit and run no matter what they're flying.

I will also point out that I've seen guys in B-26's and Apaches  shoot down enemy aircraft. #1 point: it's the pilot, not the plane that makes a battle. If he chooses to run,  not a whole lot you can do about it, even if you are in a faster aircraft: still gotta chase down the bugger.

When you have a 1v1 with 2 very disimilar aircraft, it is unlikely that you will be engaged in a knife fight in a phone booth.

Hog Vs Frank is a good example. Any hog driver who expects to be able to outpower or outurn a Frank at slow speeds is dillusional. To expect that the hog will fight on the Franks terms is wishful thinking.

When I fly the Hog, most of the fights that I end up losing, I lose because I have tried to go toe to toe and slug it out with an aircraft that performs better in a "turn and burn" type of fight.

When I fly smart, I use the hogs diving ability and higher diving speed to an advantage. I want to create a distance between us that I can work with. I want the fight to happen at higher airspeeds than the frank probably does, so if I can control the tempo and distance of the fight to my advantage, I will.

With the Frank, knowing that it will shed parts at 450 or so, I can and do use it as an advantage.

As far as ramming goes....eh, it happens to us all. Generally it happens with me when I am OTD and fast and can't get under my opponent (who is just as committed to keeping his nose pointed at me), or when I am out of E, nose up and wallowing around like a fat pig with no ability to maneuver out of the way. Not something I ever whine about, like I said, it happens to us all occasionally. I also won't give any symapthy to it.

Just my $.02

Cheers,
RTR

have found a fairly simple mathematical equation usually explains rams.

X   x   HO attempts  =  Y

X = Player

Y = RAMS

The Ki61 is awful SA2. Heck even an F4U-1 with full flaps and about 150 MPH will out turn one wont it? ;)

Point(s) being (Mr. defensive) .... ahem .....

1: You tend to complain about rams alot.

2: On average I'd say I see you involved in rams on an average of 3 to 4 times more than any other single player in the game.

3: It's your own damned fault.

4: If you wanna knife fight ... take the damned knife outa your mouth first.

:lol

[JG54 mode]In VWE's defense Arlo,  the issue we have are guys who come in from 5-10k above, swoop in, cherry pick a few, then run home screaming like a little girl.  That type of MA behaviour is not appreciated in the CT where one expects more mature and serious engagements.

(Like that happens)

Our point is, if you wanna chery pick, go hang out around the cherry MA tree.  It is thought that all come to a historical arena where pilots fly for the love of the match-ups.
(as if)

Even though there is a long list to choose from... That has to be the most idiotic statement I've ever seen you type.

You're vision of historical is a plague.

That is a personal attack and you can kiss my ass.

Honestly,  I fly the way I am comfortable.  I fly the way your supposed to fly the USAAF birds.  If you see me as a "cherrypicker".  I am sorry I am not going to fly the way people think or expect people to fly because it messes with their furball.
