White screen of death update

Ok, same problem as described here.

I originally thought it just happened after I'd played AH, but that's not the case.  It just happens in AH a lot, and not in other games.  But it just happened in windows, when I was just reading the BB.  

Here's what was different about this one though.  The screen went white (like usual), and the song I had playing kept going instead of looping.  So I figured I'd let the song finish.  Then, the screen went black, and the monitor went into powersave mode.  

This tells me that there was no video signal at all instead of the "white noise" it has been giving.  Is it safe to say that this is a video card issue, with the video card flipping out shortly before it shuts down completely?  I'm not too keen on spending 200 bucks on a new card if it's a software issue, but I also want to get this fixed because it makes AH a real pain to play due to the crashes.
