Well yeah I kinda agree, I was yankin' your chain a bit.  I'm in a mad mood tonight.  But I still think Pinochet was evil.

for the love of gawd... has anyone checked on weeping toast boy yet???? there still might be time to shut off the oven!

tweetie is saying that ideas don't kill people.  I believe that he realizes that the ideal of communism allways results in horrendous numbers of deaths when it is executed to... least I hope he does..

Yes, saved them from "communism" only to give them 20 years of fascism. Great. Showing your true colours again Grun?

I'm left wondering what research you've ever actually done on Allende, because as far as I can see he was about as communistic as the social democrats so prevelant in western democracies in 2004. Far from being a threat to his own people, the only group I can actually discern that had reason to fear him were the US business interests who were systematically asset stripping his country in the years leading up to his election.

Given that you're an clearly an expert on the matter, can you name any action taken by Allende that wasn't permitted him under Chilean law or the constitution?

It is especially telling that people like Eduardo Frei, his centre-right predecessor as president, or René Schneider, chief of Chile's military, would have nothing to do with the plots the CIA formented. Still, you managed to subvert the oldest latin-american democracy so nice work there.

Better 17 years of Pinochet, who as I'm sure you know gave up his power in a free democratic election, than risk Allende turning out like his good communist friend Castro and being dictator and chief executioner for life.

Nope it's just that it don't work like arithmetic

Bad - Bad = Bad and no like you think Bad - Bad = 0

(Allende or Castro) - Pinochet = Bad.

Nope.

Pinochet - Allende = Chile saved from a path to communism, which is always a good thing for any country since communism is clearly the greatest and most destructive evil of all time - both to human flesh and the human spirit.

General Pinochet!

If you feel Chirac compare to them I don't see why you can be pissed by anyone comparing Bush to Hitler afterall you're also guilty of stupidity.

GRUN I don't know if you are right or not when saying Pinochet saved Chili from comunist and no one will ever now as it did not happen.

The only think sure is that Pinochet regime was far from being a democraty and a paradise on this planet.

Comparing something that happened to something that could have happened is a not really logical.

PS : note that I'm not saying comunism would have been better for Chili.

Of course communism did not fully  happend in Chile, we owe that fact to General Pinochet - he stopped Allende and his allies from going all the way.

As for Pinochet's Chile being a paradise, I have no illusions about a military dictaorship, however that is clearly better than communsim and clearly better than a Chile aligned with the USSR, Cuba and North Korea acting as a beached for communst revolution or other influence in south america. So I clearly prefer that Chile was allied with the west under Pinochet rather than Allendes turn towards the communists.  Also lets not forget that Pinochet gave up his power in a free election, unlike say oh Castro who was Allendes best buddy, model and political confidant...
