Fricking sickening..

Hey Grun, what exaclly was wrong with Saddam anyway ? So yeah, he killed few hundered thousand people, but he saved Iraq from communism !!! And Islamists !!! What a fricking visionary !!!

Any chance you could get a consistent idea ? Either freedom and democracy or "**** all we can do what we like". Can't have both.

Where is your angel site about Castro saw?

As for a communist dictatorship Germany allied with (read: controlled by) the USSR and Stalin in the 1930s  I can only see that being far more destructive in the long run than even the terrors of WW2.. You would have two evil militant totalitarian dictorships working in concert to dominate Europe instead of two totalitarian dictatorship beating the living crap out of each other for 4 years... Too bad only the Nazis were destroyed by WW2, it would have been great if communism ended right then and there along with the nazi scum...

FdSki Allende wasnt just some european social democrat and early 1970s Chile wasnt quite some stable mundane modern west european democracy.  Chile was a deeply devided country on the brink of civil war beteeen right and left wing fanatics. Allenda was doing the usual communist thiong, nationalizing industries, turninmg sharply left,  forging close alliences with the USSR, Cuba and North Korea. Left wing fanatics in Alledes circles were getting out of control and plotting violent revolution etc etc, the country was a mess headed for civil war and possible domination by global communism. I'm very very glad it never got there.

But hey I know you gotta defend Allende and Castro, its what you guys do...

Not if you examine it as a choice between two unpleasnt outcomes in a deeply troubled and divided country headed towards civil war - which is exactly what chile war circa 1973. So if the choce is between a Chile dominated by communism and aligned with the USSR acting as base for Castro to spread communst revolution in South America  or a Chile run by a pro western Pinochet military government then I'm all for Pinochet. Cold war and all that you know...

Thats basically what it comes down to for me, but of course then I add some hyperbolic hero worship of Pinochet to piss of leftists and highlight their hypocritical adoration of dictators like Castro in contrast to their hysterical hatred for Pinochet whoose crimes are far less bad in every conceivable way...

No chit.

But we are discussing events that took place between 1973 and 1989.. So cold war considerations are quite approipriate..

exactly..

I wonder what the good ole'USA interest were down there in south America.. I mean, what do those guys really have a lot of??

Its always something... Either the Dole fruit company or some other corperate interest. There is usually 'another' reason that the USA attempts to change things in south america..

Semantics... I have called it military dictaorship in another post just a few minutes ago, so you really dont have point there..  What does my language give away when I call Pinochet's rule a military dictaorship???

Yep I hate communism, its clearely the most destructive and evil thing of the past century. If the choice is between a pro western fascist dictator and a pro USSR communist dictator during the cold war in vital nation then I choose Pinochet..

Copper was the main inustrial concer, Allende like most communists nationalized most  major industries.  The wider political concern was Chile being used as communist base to lauch revoltionary wars and communist influence in South America - basically cold war issues. Thankfully that did not happend in Chile as the commies wanted.

So in absence of evil communist USSR, what exacly is the Chavez's fault at this point other then being an ******* ?

How are we justified in overthrowing him in the name of freedom and democracy ?

wotan... that was really funny.   I think the rest of the countries ought to appolodgize for being insignificant.

If they tried harder then who we elected  wouldn't be so important.

If there is a substantive difference between communists and facists it would be news to me to hear it.  I will admit that facists tend to have snappier uniforms though.
