Well hello
« on: November 11, 2004, 05:37:57 PM »
there people. I've been away from the game for 1 year. Can't believe it's been that long but it has. I've found myself longing for the old virtual dogfight lately. I should be gettin my box together tomorrow and hope to be flying tomorrow night. I miss my squaddies and the good times we had together.

I won't be able to succumb to the addiction this time. I'll have to fly reasonble times and hours. No more stayin up til 3am on a work night just to get that "last sortie" in there.

Is this video card any good?

Anyways hope to see you bums tomorrow.

Welcome back Hblair.  That card will do just fine for AH2, but I bet some of the more computer-inclined fellows, unlike myself, will suggest some newer ones. :)

welcome back!

That card is ok, I personally prefer nvidia cards but thats just me.
Not that I haven't tried ati cards from time to time, just haven't been happy with the quality of their driver support.

the standard 9600  is a lower end card that will run the game at a low image quality. here is a link that shows the card stacked up against most others. iwould guess maybe 40 -50 frames  kinda hard to tell seeing as i haven't ran 1, but i think if you could find a 9600 pro for a comparable price you would prolly be doing yourself a favor    imho     38 http://graphics.tomshardware.com/graphic/20041004/vga_charts-04.html#3dmark_2003

Welcome back.
If you get the 9600 make sure it is the Pro or XT model.  I am using the Pro and got it from Newegg.  I see they are currently selling for around 100 to 106 bucks.  Its a good card but my system isn't really letting me get the most out of it.  Now that I know I'm going to have to upgrade my motherboard/CPU/RAM, I would have got the 9800 Pro (256 bit) instead but hindsight is 20/20...
There is a thread called "Max system for Aces High" or something to that effect in the Hardware and Software section of the bbs and Skuzzy has posted some very interesting info about vid cards and CPUs and how they interact/work in Aces High.  Give it a read.
