I was circling above the whole hoard of them in P40s, Hurricanes,  F4Fs. and they were litterally 8 of them in a 1000 yard cube. I looked down at them from my Yak and wished I had a bomb..I could have gotten 5 of them with a 1k bomb..

Well .... when you decide to impress us by coming back, leave the French infantry uniform back in WWIIOL. Especially the soiled pants. :D

Less popular planes are just more attractive for some reason.  Should the P40E see 20% of the usage in the MA, I'd probably switch to a different ride :)

And I suppose you're right Honch... in some cases it isn't the challenge, and others it is.  You can find a challenge in just about any aircraft.  A challenge for me in an La7 would probably be 4v1.  Should I be so lucky and I work my way down to a 2v1 or 1v1, it gets progressivly easier.

1v1 in non-identical aircraft always seems a heck of a lot easier than 1v1 in identical aircraft.  Individual characteristics of each aircraft have both their exploits and their advantages.  It's easier to morph a fight that way.

Identical aircraft 1v1 is usually boring scissors or a balanced turn fight, scraping your way into an advantage.  If you lose, it's all on you.

With an early war ride, you'll win by  flying your ride that much more efficient and exploiting the other plane's weakness and the pilot's mistakes that much more.  Maybe it's an ego thing.

If I lose in a P40 vs. Yak9U, I can put some of the blame on the matchup :D  Convenient double standards :D

Most often in the MA when you find yourself in a P40 or F4F, 90% of your kills come from other pilots' mistakes.

In the end, landing 5 kills in a P40 versus landing 5 kills in a La7 is always more satisfying.  Do more with less.

Couldn't have said it better myself octavius.  Theres something very satisfying about flying well against a "superior" plane.

Win or lose it says something about your personality, I think.  Especially, when you get whacked time and time again and keep coming back in the same ride.

uh, not that it ever happens to us.

You got me on the 51 rope. You put it together, you were workin it.

In the company I keep I suck. The group I search out to play with are much better than I in the thing we all enjoy.

I die the majority of time. For me it's the fun before I die. Yes I'm low, and they all come in high. Yes there's the prospect of taking names in a chitty situation. Yes I die, but some of the fights outnumbered and low in a midwar plane can't be compared to anything else in the game.  I love it.

Thing is, it makes the juices flow. It rocks.

Touching down with a couple in the bag with the cockpit filled with smoke from the hair fire is where it's at.

That's the goal. Doing that is dangerous and a good deal of the time...I die

But when I don't ??

That's why I fly.

;)

The only thing I don't like about the p40 is that when you are in it engaged in a major fight, people follow you around like you are in a 262 or something.  I don't know how to fly it that well so 1 vs.1 is fine, 2 vs. 1 is ok... 3 on 1 I don't win ever in that plane, but with all the attention its like 5 on 1 in a matter of seconds.

Not sure how it got that reputation, but I hope some of you better P40 pilots can change that  :aok

Because most of the uber-plane-flying late-war pilots want that easy kill and just don't care if their plane out performs it in every way. That's my guess.
