Apocolypse Now. Released in 1979. A Swift Boat takes an Army agent up the river into Cambodia on a covert mission.

John Kerry claimed in 1986 that in 1968 he took a CIA agent up the river into Cambodia in his Swift Boat.  It was seared into his memory.

The similarity is striking.

Never thought about that before. But it damned sure makes me wonder.

It wasn't a swift boat in Apoclypse Now, it was a PBR (Patrol Boat, River). Swift boats are bigger, better armored and were used for costal areas mostly. PBRs are smaller, quicker and were used more on inland waterways.

That may be, but the basic premise is still the same. The whole scenario is basicly the same, save for minor variances in vehicles and weapons.
