Yea, but they do try... and for that I've got more respect for them than I have for about 95% of the MA.
Eventually they'll get good at it just from experience.. which is again more than one can say for about 95% of the MA.
I agree with Urchin. The SEs will dive right into a chitstorm without regard to the odds. No, they don't offer much challenge dogfighting, but they do fight and seldom run. They clearly believe that getting shot down is secondary to the mission. They will get better as time goes by.
On the other hand, I have my nephew for contrast. He's living with us while he attends the nearby State University (saves his parents a ton of money). He became interested in Aces High watching me play. So, I let him use my account, which is usually in the afternoon when he is done with classes for the day. As of Friday, he'd logged 9 hours, gained 6 kills and one loss. Not much to show for 30 something sorties. I watched him play the other day. He flies high and fast. He rarely gets into real fights, but rather prefers to blow through furballs spraying and praying. If anything gets remotely close, he hauls tail.
When I asked him why he avoids fights, he said that he "didn't want to screw up my score." Well, I informed him that by not engaging he is already screwing up my score (K/T of 0.7 and K/S of under 3.0), which he has managed to do for the past 3 months. It's really not an issue, I could care less about scoring. The goal is to have fun. I told him to just get into the fight, do his best and not worry about getting shot down. So yesterday, on my suggestion, he took up a Niki, drove right into a Knit mission, shot down 5 and belly landed in a completely trashed fighter. He was thrilled, for the first time he was having real fun. That he survived was a miracle. I'll see how he does later today when he gets home from his part-time job. However, now that he's seen that furballs can be fun, I expect he'll try it again. I know what that means.... Now he'll pork my K/D too! LOLOL
My regards,
Widewing
