Smoke problem....
« on: November 13, 2004, 02:53:37 PM »
Just since the latest patch (or two) I have had this problem where smoke does not display properly.

Example, flak puffs look like pie wedges, and/or don't show up at all. Many times smoke on my own plane does not show up from several angles. Looking back at my own airshow smoke it looks like a string of pie-shaped wedges (about 30 degrees each) and oil and gas leaks often don't show up at all from certain angles (including looking aft to see if I'm leaking, not seeing anything, checking external view and seeing it).

However, I still see smoke from OTHER planes just fine. I even set a zero on fire yesterday and was greeted with a nice flaming sprite (special effect? Whatever it is classified as...)

This is only from the past patch or two. I have tried it with and without the checkbox that says "hardware vertice mapping" or whatever in the video setup window. Same results both ways.

What has changed in the recent patches, graphics-wise, and why would this start looking like crap? It's gotten to the point where I was in a P38 and apparently my right wing was in flames and I couldn't tell from external or from internal. After a while (2 mins tops) the wing just popped off. Until then all I saw were bullet holes in it.

So this basically makes AH2 almost unplayable. The second I'm damaged I don't know how bad it is because I can't tell if I'm even on fire or if I'm trailing oil or if I'm losing gas from my only gas tank or what. It REALLY sucks not to see these very important damage clues.
