hey, i have verizon and im getting random drops ingame. using a smc wireless g router with a rj45 connection to my desktop

it gives me the old 'switching to tcp' then boom, gone

will opening up ports 2000-5000 help?

It might, but on a wireless router you will suffer packet loss/errors more than on a wired connection.

even when im connected to it via rj45 and not over the wireless? I'm using it just for my laptop but my main machine is the one running ah

A direct connection should be fine, but it all depends on how the router is handling it all.

Your router may be blocking UDP packets. Post your configuration and I may be able to help you.
