Why not?  Nothing to freeze up.

They were still made in Mexico until 1999 or so.  Seems they'd have a bit more of an issue with air cooling anyone.

What's the best mileage ever reached by a Bug?

I've just read that a Mercedes has been donated to a museum by a greek taxi driver with 4.6 million klicks (!) behind the wheels. He bought it in 1981 (it had already 220,000 kms at this time) and used it until now... WTG on the maintenance!
