I was at that show in '97  It is without a doubt the greatest airshow on earth.

Great to see the Glacier P38 complete. . And I'm also glad to see Sentimental Journey back in the air after her landing gear collapse here at Van Nuys... That really busted her up.

Great stuff, thanks for sharing.

Wasn't Sentimental Journey that had the gear collapse.  It was the EAA B17 Aluminum Overcast.

I think Sentimental Journey did have the wing resparred though like most of the flying 17s have had in the last few years.

Glacier Girl is a beaut.  Oh to have a P38F in the garage :)

Thanks for the pics BigR

Yeah, Guppy, I think you're right..  Actually I think Aluminum Overcast is still in the old Army hanger next to Clay Lacy aviation.  Does anyone know when they expect to have Aluminum overcast back to airworthy?

When that accident first happened I asked a fellow warbird dork which plane it was and he told me it was SJ.... Later  I learned it was Aluminum Overcast... But when I saw the photo I grabbed the first memory.

My bad.

Don't know what the latest on Aluminum Overcast is, but a good spot to track the B17 news is:

Some interesting photos of the one recovered from the Labrador lake recently.  Photos of the EAA 17 too.

That show in 97 was AMAZING. It was the 50th Anniversary of the Air Force, so it was extra special. I have so many pictures from that show.

That p38 is actually an E model, and is the cleanest warbird I have seen in a LONG time. I love the early war paint scheme.

I took 430 pictures yesterday...my shutter button finger is all worn out!

I was at Nellis Airforce Base this summer.   There were no shows but I was able to go see the museum they had set up there - very cool stuff.  I spent most of my time around the WWII birds ofcourse and the Douglas C-47 outside.  Wish I could have been there for the show =(
