The C and D models have additional hardpoints for more ord options - causes a tad more drag.

I think the birdcage canopy of the -1 is less draggy.

When flying the -1D or -4 you are carrying external stores pylons regardless of loadout. They were standard in the Combat configuration and they were not used on the F4U-1.

The F4U-1D had a more efficient paddle blade prop and 2250HP as opposed to 2135HP in the -1.

In the clean condition with no pylons the top speed of the -1D is 366MPH at sealevel insted of 358MPH. It is about 10MPH faster all the way up without them.

Here is a link with F4U-1, -1D and -4 data.  You can choose to believe this information, or not:
http://web.cetlink.net/~howardds/id63.htm

Here is another link that has F4u blueprints:
http://www.f4ucorsair.com/tdata/blueprints.html

Both links I found very interesting and believable.

IMO, the -1 and -1D are reasonably accurately modeled in AH.  They aren't perfect, but pretty close.   However, the -4 appears to be detuned from all peformance data I have seen.  Reducing the 50 cal damage in AH2 from AH1 makes me wonder if the -4 perk points are justified.
