Wolfala explained a lot, and I want to add that our military doctrine includes full-scale nuclear strike against agressor. Strategic Missile Corps is the mainstay of our defence. We have to rely on it because we can't afford full-scale conventional warfare with NATO since 1991, when the defence system almost ceased to exist.

They have to becasue they dont want to be dicatated to by a nuclear power with a nuclear defense missle system.
It is way cheaper to upgrade your missles to lower thier chance of being intercepted then to deploy a missle defense shield of your own.

NMD "shield", when completely deployed, will be capable to intercept 55 ICBM warheads. It's an optimistic estimation. Congrats, Americans, you guys are @#$%ed up again, paying for this toy to military-industrial complex.

It was never meant to defest a massive WW3 type of attack, its defense against a more limited strike.

Who is wasteing their money? The US for developing something they can use or Russia for developing something that they cannot?

The US shield would be able to make countries like Iran or North Korea with a primitive delivery system and a few nukes unable to bluff the US or hold it hostage.

If Russia was stupid enough to launch every missle it had and totally wipe out the US from tip to tail. It still would not win. Because every few weeks a trident sub would float to within a hundred feet of the surface of the ocean and then launch enough nukes to kill every Russian left on earth before silently floating away.

Russia is not going to nuke America any time soon or in the forseeable future. American people never were enemies of Russia. Please stop drawing your fancy scenarios in your head and drink to the health of the Russian and A merican people.

That is why this new Russian wonder weapon is a total waste of money. It is designed to penetrate the American anti missle defense and that defense is only to guard against the growing capability of states like Iran and North Korea and not Russia.
