LCD Monitors

I'm considering the purchase of a 19" LCD. Newegg had a Viewsonic available in late October for $389 (via $100 rebate) but I missed the boat :(

As a newbie to LCD I gather that considerations involve contrast, response time, dot pitch and of course, price.

Newegg lists an Acer Mdl#1912 for under $400 icl S&H
specs are: 500:1 contrast, 16 ms response, 29.4 dot pitch. The Viewsonic I missed was 750:1 contrast and responce was around 25 ms +/-  Not sure of the dot pitch but I'm guessing 24-25

What should I be looking for? Anyone have any recommendations? Do you find the flat panel you know have to be equal to the CRT you dumped? Anyhing I'm missing?

Thanks folks...

The biggest factor you'll want to look for is the response.  16ms is pretty much the minimum, quicker time is always better, to prevent 'ghosting'. I have a dell 2001FP 20" with 16ms response, have no problems at all. As far as the picture, it is far clearer, and more vivid with the color,(im using the DVI input).....A high contrast number will make that more pronounced. Only bad part is the price, mine was $800 about 6 months ago, it's probably a bit cheaper now. I chose this monitor after hours of research, primarily because it is the smallest LCD with a 1600x1200 resolution, I'm sure there are others that can fit your price range with similar specs.

Just want to make sure I have this response time number squared away in my mind....16ms response is faster than 24ms response...right or wrong? Reason I ask is you said 16ms "is pretty much minimum" Most of the LCD's I've looked at run 24 - 27 ms

Yes DMax, 16ms (miliseconds) is faster than 24 ms.

Don't buy a cheap one, look for a good one.

Or I think you'll wish you'd stayed with a CRT.
