this is ridiculous

After weeks of buggy inconsistent play now the latest patch will not install. It says that stdshapes.res is invalid and cannot be updated. I uninstalled AH for the 10th time in 3 weeks, deleted the folders and downloaded a fresh copy and still nothing.
MSI-545max Motherboard
2.0 P4 Processor
512 Mb RAM
80Gb Western Digital HD (1 week old)
FXGForce 5500 256MB Video card(AGP)
XP Pro
DirectX 9.0c

New D-Link Ethernet Card
New Webstar Cable Modem
New cables
New LinkSyS Router
Hard Drive and windows installation are so new because I experienced same problems on old HD.Also on wifes Computer, Son's Computer, and Boss's computer.

Honestly can't figure this one out... it has ot be something, since your system is perfectly adequate for AH2, well, except for the RAM, 768mb+ would be better, I used to have 512 and found it a little hard on my system.

send a dxdiag output to skuzzy, i'm sure he could help.
Surrounded by suck and underwhelmed with mediocrity.
I'm always right, it just takes some poepl longer to come to that realization than others.
I'm not perfect, but I am closer to it than you are.

Since it's common to you, your wife's, your son's, and your boss's computers, my guess is you are running some software application on all of those computers that is causing this. It can't be a hardware issue, it would be highly unlikely that there is a common hardware problem to them all, unless you got four identical computers on a package deal.

Since your boss's computer has it too, is there a firewall or anti-virus program that is common to all 4 computers? Is there some other software application that is on all four?

You might try a fresh reformat of your HD, install Windows and the drivers for your chipset, ethernet card, video card, DX-9c ect, but do NOT install any business applications, anti-virus, firewall, security ect software applications. The only applicaion you should install is AHII. Then see if there is any problems running AHII.

If not, start adding software that you need one at a time until you find the application that is causing the conflicts.

I got the same error when I let the auto updater try to install patch #2. I uninstalled and re-installed v2.02 w/o any problems.

For this patch I bypassed the auto updater and will do so for future patches.
