It appears the bible also prohibits slavery in this passage.

I'm definately no Bible Scholar, but it would appear to me that that passage is applicable only to the tribe of the Isrealites.  Do I have that right?  The people (tribe) who the old prophets belonged to.  They were known as the Isrealites, right?  

Anyway...  that is the way I interpreted it.  "If one of your brethren, etc.".  Not "If some random Joe".  

But, like I said, I'm no expert.

As Christianity is a new testament offshoot of Judaism, your question would be the case then for the entire old testament wouldn't it?

My scholarship comes from listening to friends and Google.  As an agnostic, I have frequent discussions with folks here at work, several of whom are born-again types. They are not blathering idiots; their faith seems to support them.

I see some who seem to be preaching tolerance of others political or moral beliefs until it comes to Christianity.  

If one is truly tolerant one could say "I disagree with your religious belief, but will defend to the death your right to believe it."

by "in the books" you are referring to history?  If so I don't find the relevence.  Why preach out against history?

In addition I don't see what you find intolerant of Christianity.  Is it wrong to be against Homosexuality?  If somone was forcing me to accept homosexuality as a way of life, wouldn't that be "intolerent" of my beleifes.

In addition, christ does not teach us to hate gays.  Those that preach hatered against gays are not true christions.  Just my thoughts.

rent payers should not be allowed to vote on property matters like property tax say.

I am allways warry of people who preach tolerance because I have found them to be amoung the least tollerant people I ever run into.
