Hi,
I read Skuzzy's post on how to improve connections but I would like to bring forward my experience (or inexperience).
I have an average PC running XP Pro, a Zone Alarm firewall and Avast anti-virus.
I usually have some complaints about my connection because I use a free-server ISP (not so cheap when I play AH frequently) that gives me pings that range from 250 to...disconection.
Usually, on a good day (night) I am switched to TCP due to the huge packet loss or latency or both. I get the standard messages and, if switched to TCP, things would run acceptably...
But, lately, from more or less two months to this date, my difficulties to connect, disconnections and discos after long periods when the switch to TCP should happen and it doesn't are constant.
I must add that I have tried to configure my connection following Help instructions (baud rate, data compression, etc.) and it turns out worse than the standard connection.
My question is: is there any trick I could use to force connection in TCP mode right from the start? I don't mind, it worked fine for me since ever...
I am considering switching to ADSL early next year, this analog dial-up connection is driving me mad!
