Great article Andy.

And the "Print this" tool rocks.  I know when I was new in this game I printed EVERYTHING so I could read it at night and lear more.  I still do print great stuff like this.    I'll be sending folks from training to have a read for sure.

Did you not used to say 400 yrds for convergence?

I used to think 300 was better.
Now i use 400.

Should not each plane have its own best range?

SPIT zero la5 p51 p47 typhoon 400 yrds

109 ,p 38 ,yak,  f4 1c 500 yrds.

Good article it will go in my library as soon as my printer stops eating paper.

Were those questions for me?!

Nope...I never said 400 yards...I'm more of a 40 yards kinda guy!

I used 300 yards in the article as a typcal range...I have no particular range as a favorite, other than closer is better.

I'm not sure that linking a convergence range to an aircraft is the way to go, unless the gun placement and ammo characteristics make a particular range more suitable than others. Instead, I believe the choice of range is more a function of pilot skill.

Thanks for the great article(s) and all the help you give in this board.

After reading your article on gunsights, I checked the range on my favorite sight, the Spit 9 sight.  The wingspan of a fighter did not fill the sight until about 100yds or so at the gunsight zoom level I like to use :0

I used MSpaint to decrease the size of the sight by 40%, to where the wingspan fills the sight at about 300yds at the zoom level I use.  Not sure why, but seems to be making a BIG difference in my ability to hit targets now!

Thanks again,
