Looking for a game
« on: November 24, 2004, 02:33:20 PM »
Hey guys:

I'm looking for a strategy sorta war game, without heavy graphics , something that a machine just making the AH2 cut could play.

I had a game way back, Midway , I think. You placed your ships, planes atc. then let the computer make it's move and dealt with the outcome. I'm looking for somethin like that.

Anyone know of any, it'd be appreciated.
TIA.

but that part of me died.

Civ III would work, as long as you turn off movement & animations half-way through a game. Once you've conquered a few countries & ethnically cleansed the cities (no joke, it's great for production when you uh.. re-staff with your own guys) and have a couple hundred units moving, your game speed takes a massive hit.

Then when you beat the living crap out of your computer when a man with an axe kills a modern tank... your FPS becomes much better.

Try the Close Combat series of games, real time but totally different than say command and conquer or warcraft.

As Curval said Uncommon Valor

or it's big brother War in the Pacific

For pure land combat I am a fan of  Korsun Pocket (and it's expansion Across the Dnepr),
and they have new one in the series Battles in Normandy.

All are available from http://www.matrixgames.com
