Of course the little brat was armed. If you ever had a little brother, you know how slippery the little bastards can be.

I have 7 younger brothers and sisters, even as a child myself I never had any difficulty *subduing* them. An adult should have a easy time subduing a 6 yr old trapped in an office w/o resorting to nailing them with 50,000 volts of electricty.

The kid had already cut himself twice, it sounds like the officer was trying to keep him from doing more damage.  I wasn't there though, so I'm not the best judge of what was a reasonable response to the situation.

Here Here!

In both cases the kids were well out of line, and the cops did the right thing IMO. I am quite sure that lil girl is less likely to run from the next officer that wants to speak with her. The boy with the glass shard obviously has serious issues, and they likely can be traced right back to his Mom, who would rather discuss how inhumane her child was treated than the real issues causing his suicidal tendencies at such an early age.

I'm with Elfie on this one, which kind of cops can't 'disarm' a 6 yrs old toting a shard of glass or catch a drunk 12 yrs old on foot???

Besides the electricity jolt could/may very well have induced other cuts (fingers clutching on the glass)...

I don't know about tazers but as a parent of 3 almost grown children I can assure you there were plenty of times that I thought a couple of those shock collars we used to use to train hounds would have been real handy.  :p

as far as it being OK for cops to tazer people in general or kids specifically?  obviously it would depend on the circumstances and were less drastic means considered.

personally I think I'd really hate getting tazered, but would rank it considerably above getting shot.  I'd prefer that cops have as many other options as possible before they have to resort to shooting or killing me or anyone else.

at least with the tazer you can file a complaint and have your day in court (if the cop was out of line).  while if you get shot they may still have the hearing, though 'winning' isn't likely to be near as satisfying for you.
