The Grudge / Ju-On
« on: November 26, 2004, 03:42:05 PM »
If you liked The Grudge, and are considering renting the original Japanese version: Ju-On, save your money.  You've already seen the good version.  The Japanese one looks like the 80's made-for-TV version and ain't all that spooky.  The only entertainment value it held was my friends and I doing MST3K commentary for it.

SOB,

By reading your thread about The Grudge I am guessing this movie is made by the same guy who did The Ring?   Japanese versions is the clue I am going by.
Is the The Grudge worth seeing in the theaters or should I wait for it to hit the movie rental stores?
I told my wife I would like to see it but she told me "No freekin' way".  The Ring really freaked us out because we have an old well in our basement that is out of service. There is a cover on it and each time I go down to the basement I ALWAYS look to see if that cover has moved a fraction of an inch while I am down in the basement.      Pretty sad for a 36 year old guy to be so spooked by a movie huh?    :lol

Grun is stupid and ugly and a poo poo head.  Don't listen to him, he doesn't know what he's talking about.  The story was so so, but it was plenty spooky and that's what matters.  Good in the theater, but as with all spooky movies it'd be a great rental to watch at home in the dark too.  I don't know if it was from the same dude who did The Ring, but I haven't seen that movie...I guess I should check it out.  It's been in my Neflix queue for a while now, but hasn't made it to the top yet.

I'll admit the wife and I were scared ****less by the Grudge (and similary by the Ring).

What I thought was good was that not only did they keep the original Ju-On director/writer, but still kept it based in japan...

agree didn't like the grudge. the ring was decent enough though. All those stupid annoying ass, throat moaning sounds was enough to make me want to leave.

After that movie I could not feel my right arm because the girl I saw the Grudge with almost ripped my arm off she was so scared. For the most part I thought it was scary but it had enough stupid stuff to even it out. It had no real plot except dont go in that house or you will die.
It was very similar to the ring, especially because of the girl with the long black hair. I thought the ring was stupd, but then again I saw it on HBO and it got cut off after the well scene and I missed the only scary part when the girl came out of the tv. Instead of being a mystery like the Ring, I think the main part of the Grudge was to make you jump. Every 5 minutes or so someone died because of the girl with no jaw or the boy with the cri de chat disorder (make random cries like a cat).

Well not pee my pants, can't go to sleep scared, but yeah it was spooky.  If you can't spooked by a scary movie, what's the point of seeing it?

PS...Yes, I am a pansie!

Like Waterworld and Road Warrior, the Grudge would have been better if there hadn't been The Ring before it. Betting Ring 2 will be good.

I have now seen 28 days later and Dawn of the Dead.

The former is way better IMHO.

Haven't seen The Grudge yet.

28 days later?   that was as stupid as it gets... let's see... if you get on3e drop of blood in your eye or mouth or open cut you are a zombie so the brits in it use..... cricket paddle things and machetes... (hint, pop the trunk of a police car or military vehicle and get some firepower there green teeth)

they live on a freakin island and the zombies don't swim but these brits can't figure out that a boat anchored 75 feet from shore would be zombie proof?

They finally get ahold of a gun aned they.... throw it away?

dawn of the dead was a masterpiece... American to the bone.
