If you've bought the boxed version of Half-Life2, you're screwed if you want to play DoD: Source.  Only those that purchased and downloaded the Silver and Gold version of Half-Life2 via Steam get to play.  From the posts on the DoD and Steam forums, there are no plans at this time to offer an upgrade for those that purchased the box version.

Valve sucks.

It wasn't too me but then I stopped going to the Steam and DoD forums after DoD went to Steam only.

If I had known, I think I would have passed on HL2 since DoD was pretty much the only reason why I bought the game.  I want a hard copy of the game and not have to download it in case I need to reinstall it.  Oh well, at least I can still play Red Ochestra.

is anyone else having sound stutering problems in HL2?  I have read some BBS's and several other people are. They say a patch is around the corner to fix it.

my system
2.4 processor
512 ram
9800 pro (128 mg)
audiology sound card
all up to date drivers and direct x

accoding to some BBS comments, it's not a sound card issue, but a video issue with some people who need the patch.

didn't mean to change the subject, didn't want to start a new thread.

I get it sometimes and there's supposed to be a patch in the works that fixes it.  The only work around that I know of that does work and pretty much has stopped it was turning off anti-aliasing and turning down my video settings one notch in windows.

Now this sux, i bought the Boxed DVD version and i expected to get DoD for free.

Im pissed off now.

I paid 73$ for the game wich i guess is more money than either the Silver or Gold package.

As Ack-Ack said, DoD was pretty much the sole reason i got HL2.

Edit :

What exactly does that mean? no DoD at all, even if we pay more money to get it???

Already pissed!

Since I only have dialup it makes it hard everytime I have to connect just to play offline. I did everything they said to be able to play offline but nooooo I still have to connect every other day.

Connect wait 20 to 30 mins then play offline. Grrrr!

Good thing I beat it already or I would be even more pissed(BTW the ending sucks).

Not tried DOD since I got HL2 but it looks like I won't bother.

A big Grrrr to Valve!

Valve makes more money off folks who bought HL2 via steam. DoD and HL are no longer 3rd party mods and Valve are the ones doing the work to get DoD:Source out. Just as they did with CS:Source.

Vivendi made most of the money off the box sales, if you expect something for 'free' expect it from them.

If you bought via Steam Valve made all the money and as a reward provides DoD:Source to silver and above.

Ack Ack

The hard copy of the Hl2 you bought is the same exact thing you DL via steam. You can burn yourself a copy just by right clicking on HL2 (steam, play games) and clicking on 'back up game files and burning it to a cd or DVD.

But even then all you need to remember is your steam nic and pw. I have HL2 and CS:Source and DoD on 3 computers. I just can't login into steam more then 1 time, so others can't be playing the on the other 2 cpus when I am logged on one of them. If my HDD crashed I just would download steam, sign in under my existing name and pw and re-download the games at no cost.

Don't you pay more for the Silver and above packages than you would for the HL2+CS:S box in the store?

Why wouldn't Valve just charge some $20 or something price to buy DoD:S to download from Steam?

Ack Ack lefty out this in his quote above:

Further options may be available when DoD:S is eventualy released as a retail game.

DoD will be a retail game. At that time you can purchase it.

The only issue is who should get it for free...
