November 30, 1939: The Winter War begins.

At 9:30 am Soviet bombers appear over Helsinki (the capital of Finland).

Soviet bombers also bomb 15 other towns in Finland, like the second largest town of Finland, Vyborg. The Winter War has begun. The war between Finland and Soviet Union lasted three and a half months.

All lies! They never bombed civilian targets! They were just securing Leningrad from the imminent attack of the whitebandits!

ahh the Finnish propaganda war where they killed some Soviets and then gave up all the land they were asked to at the start. Or the delaying war tactic so they could hook up with the Nazi's in all good concience?

Yeah... because of our army Finland couldn't join to the happy Russian countries like Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia.

Have to ask...  You don't give much value for the freedom ? Are you born Russian or are you just a bright red commie ?

The Winter War (also known as the Russo-Finnish War) broke out when the Soviet Union attacked Finland on November 30, 1939, three months after the start of World War II. As a consequence, the Soviet Union was expelled from the League of Nations on December 14th. Stalin had expected to conquer the whole country by the end of 1939, but Finnish resistance frustrated the Soviet forces, which outnumbered them three to one. Finland held out until March 1940, when a peace treaty was signed ceding about 10% of Finland's territory, and 20% of her industrial capacity, to the Soviet Union.

"We gained 57,000 km˛ [22,000 square miles] of territory. Just enough to bury our dead." – a Soviet General.

Ok, back to the subject.. I didn't mean this to be day-by-day update on the Winter War, but found something for tomorrow (Dec 1st). :)

Finland records its first successes in the air war: Finnish fighters shoot down 13 Soviet aircraft, two over Helsinki.
