NOTE: The 58th Sentai is only listed as flying the KI-21 SALLY from 1938 - 1945 exclusively with the 8th HIKODAN (Air Group) in the Manchuria, China area so you may have found a very rare pic there Brady.

The Three Stripes on the tail are the markings for the 58th SENTAI.  There is also the possibility of this being some type of "Command Marking." Wish we could se the tail of the other aircraft to make sure. This might be a good possibility since the 58th didn't fly the LILY.

If it is the 58th SENTAI - The markings appear to be solid white making the aircraft part of the 1st CHUTAI (Squadron). 2nd Chutai had Red Stripes while the 3rd Chutai had Yellow Stripes. All of the same pattern on the tail.

The only "Tactical" marking is the White "Combat Band" (Senchi Hyoshiki or "Battlefield Insignia") around the fuselage.
