Yankee Air Museum update
« on: December 02, 2004, 10:10:48 AM »
I found the following info on the Yankee Air Museum and thought some of you might want to help out.  There's a link at the end to some before and after pictures.
==============================================

Yankee Air Museum
An Institution Is Lost, Flying Heritage Saved

Southeast Michigan lost one of its remarkable cultural institutions to fire Oct. 9 - the Yankee Air Museum. The museum was housed at Willow Run Airport, the site where four-engine B-24 Liberator bombers rolled off the assembly line. The fire destroyed seven aircraft, hundreds of artifacts, the museum library, store and offices.

The good news is that volunteers saves the museum's B-17G (pictured). And  the museum plans to rebuild. Veterans and their families who are interested in donating artifacts and family heirlooms should call Curator Gayle Roberts at (734) 637-8876. The museum also needs everything from office supplies to monitors and DVD players that were lost in the fire. Those interested in donating items can write YankeeAirMuseum@provide.net. Those interested in making a financial contribution may visit http://www.michiganaerospace.org. Museum staffers say offers of support are coming in from across the state and nation.

Thanks for gettin the word out Jackl.
We actually have a new number for the museum curator now. It's 734-482-9810

There's a few more events posted on the website now with more on the way.

We have a huge number of "needs" right now but as a member of the technology group I'm kind of partial to our computer needs. As of right now we need about 20 more machines capable of running XP. If anyone works for, or knows someone at a large company that maybe recently upgaded and still has their old stuff laying around in the way we'd be happy to help them clean up.

Jackl, if you're ever around hangar2 on the weekend stop by the membership/technology office. I'd be happy to buy you a tootsie roll.

:)

dBeav,
I got that info from a news letter I get from the Free Press.  I work for Washtenaw County Government and we do have a program for giving replaced PC's to non-proffits.  I think most of the PC's are at  least 3 years old, but could probably run XP.  Send me an email and I'll send you information on who to contact.  overhisj@ewashtenaw.org
