NEW YORK (Reuters) - Dirk Nowitzki set a franchise record with 53 points to inspire the Dallas Mavericks to a 113-106 overtime victory over the Houston Rockets Thursday.
The 26-year-old from Germany opened the extra period with 10 consecutive points as the host Mavericks (11-6) overcame a 48-point effort from Tracy McGrady.

Forward Nowitzki's points haul was the best this season by any NBA player. He also had 16 rebounds, four blocks and wound up 15-for-32 from the floor, making 21 of his 22 free throws.
