IE crashing......
« on: December 05, 2004, 03:14:02 PM »
Just a question for the computer savy:

I use internet explorer.  Whenever I click on a link that opens a new window (like any link on these boards will do), the new window opens, freezes, and crashes both the new window and the window that spawned it (then asks if I want to send the error report).  I've run ad-aware and have a virus scanner going.  What's the problem?

The problem is that you aren't using Firefox.
Gone from the game. Please see Spikes or Nefarious for any Ahevents.net admin needs.

Prob Spyware / Adware - Do you run Adware 6.0 or Pest Patrol?  I find running more than 1 spyware scanner helps.  The two I mentioned are the ones that I use.  Also are you running service pack 2 for Windows XP?

Assuming you have no virus or spyware conflicts, after which, even though you probably dread my advice you liberal pansy, I suggest checking your power supply or the fan on your vid card.  If either is not running properly, this could be causing the issues especially if it is a vid crash which it sounds like I had a while back.

Good luck with it

Are you saying IE is faster than Firefox? Hell there's some wierd things happening in your computer...
When I installed Firebird (Firefox's predecessor) first time I almost got an woodie when I saw how fast it loaded web pages and pics...
Anyways check out the extensions you can load to your Firefox and learn "Tabbed browsing"; I'm sure you're going ditch IE for good... I did.

Yeah, I've got the updated ad-aware going, and its not having it.  I guess I'll just try this "Firefox" hootenanny (had to look that word up).

Hawker, have you installed the Yahoo helper apps? This sounds like a problem that is commonly caused by them.

If so, simply go to the add/remove programs utility under control panel and remove all extraneous Yahoo stuff (you can keep Yahoo Messenger and Yahoo Mail).
