Hunting with a pellet gun

In the UK it is legal to hunt rabbits with air-rifle 'pellet guns'.  The legal limit is 12lb ft and any thing over that was classed as a fire arm.  Most air rifles are either coil sprung or air tank.  Some of the better hunting rifles have like a revolver like magazine and bolt action.

It also depends on what grain pellet you use.  Some of the heavier pellets could take it over the legal limit.

I used to do a lot of air rifle shooting during the 80s.  The Weihrauch HW77.

GSholz, it is a completely different kettle of fish when you are talking about squirrels and 1000 fps 22 cal pellet guns.

Or should I say kettle of squirrels.

How about a .45 pneumatic rifle that looks like Alan Quartermain used it? http://www.glbarnes.com/big_bore.html

ooo ooo oooo  thanks for the link, dead.

IIRC they had a compressed air rifle with them on the Lewis and Clark expedition.
for some reason thinking it a .40 cal. , maybe a .36. I can't remb for sure what it was.

Another to consider is the Sheridan Blue Streak.  Can shoot at @675fps and these suckers last forever.  U can pick one up for @ $125.00 US

I shot a rabbit the other day at my moms house, I don't have a pellet gun. So, I went and got my dads .22LR and shot it. Standing right off the porch, shot it across the field, 3-4 acres. Died first shot. Least he was dead when I walked over to him.

-Edit- in the past, i've even killed a couple coyotes with the 22LR. But, i've killed more with the 22-250. -Edit-

ps. 22LR is good for killing prarie dogs at short-to medium distance. long range the 22.250 was best. 220 swift was even better.

I'm against hunting for a sport, but this is even worse. Therefore...
I hope you get shot with a pellet gun.

But not as much fun as taking over the neighborhood treehouse and commandeering it using pellet guns, bottles and dirt clogs.:)

not when u have me and my smart thinking my dad bought one about 1 1/2 years ago it only lasted bout 2 months well i was my fault we had a scope on it and everything dad had it sighted in so good i could pop a squirrel from about 75 feet alway in the head behind the ear me and my friend would play sniper we'd be crawlin on the ground he'd spot one and id kill it. but one day i got stupid u were only sapost to pump it 8-10 times and i thought if i pump it 30 time it'd be 3 times better it was alittle better and sounded like a .22 when i did that then i got another idea lets make it a MINI SHOTGUN so i pumped it up 30 times and put 5 bbs in it shot at a target and it worked no way to kill a squirrel like that but it was fun around the 6th time i did that i pulled the trigger and POOF air came out but no bbs i just screwed up my dads $125 pellet gun so i did what any 17 year old boy would do i put it back and when my dad asked me why his gun wasnt workin i played stupid :D  so he took it to a gun shop and they found what was in it only $20 to take the bbs out so i thought i was ok but when he fierd it, the pellet would go to the right so he took it back and asked what was wrong with it this time the guy said that when i jamed it some how i scrached the barrel and it made it do that so he gave it to me and told me id better start cuting the grass and pay him back. so i did. i still got that thing but the metel rod that pushs the air in the chamber is bent so u cant pump it up.

Spitfiremkv, let me tell you how nature works.  Most animals dont die of old age.  They are either ripped to shreds by predators, die of massive infections, or are quickly( sometimes relatively) killed by hunters.  Or they starve to death.

So death by a flying steel pellet is relatively painless.

Hunting, ya bunch of pansies shooting defenceless animals.

You want to hunt then go out with a knife and take on something that can fight back like a hog/boar or freakin lion.

Shooting animals isn't hunting, it's a foregone conclusion who is going to win
