It was the wrong link.  Fixed now.  Work uses AOL for their mail, tis all I have here.  Although I do use it at home too, for various reasons, its not my primary internet at home, and I have a separate log-in for the AOL account usage so I dont have to deal with the add-on crap.

A very good read.  It's telling of how bad the war in Vietnam was percieved and the pressures the military puts on people that no one really sees unless you've been there.  It also puts into light the Cold War and the oppression of Communism people of my generation have little or no understanding of.

Quote
When Jenkins arrived at his one-day general court-martial more than seven weeks later, he had won a pretrial agreement in which he would plead guilty only to desertion and aiding the enemy (for the time he spent teaching English). In exchange, his penalty would be a maximum 30 days' confinement, a demotion to private, forfeiture of all pay and benefits and a dishonorable discharge. Military-law experts assume Jenkins won this relatively lenient treatment in exchange for providing intelligence about North Korean spy programs. Neither Jenkins nor the U.S. government will comment on any such discussions.

hehe.

It was a good read.  Too bad he only has a 7th grade education.  No doubt that influenced his decision making at the time of desertion... not to mention the 10 beers in his system.

Not that it'll change your view or anyone else's, but I would suggest reading the whole thing.
