Isn't it ironic.....

My RL flyin crap over the years has outspent the virtual by tenfold. But I'm gunna spend more on virtual now, at least the amount I'd have to spend to get current in the real world.
I used to be a fatalist,
but that part of me died.

That was what it cost to get my Private Pilot's license.

Man Shubertt - I feel for you.  When I got my Private License (1976...) I got a deal thru a flying club for $499.  Times have really changed!  What year did you get yours?

I fly AH 'cuz when I mounted the 20mm gondolas under the wings of my Cessna 172, they just cut way down on my fuel consumption - not to mention what the vibration from the recoil did to the airframe....

And last but not least.

When I want to fly I can walk into my computer room, double click on a icon, & I'm there.

Even if I did have a pilots lic, to fly in real life I'd have to wait for decent weather.
Get in the car, drive to the airport, walkaround & checklists before even firing up the engine & asking for clearance.

It can be a total whiteout outside but in AH the sky's are blue & the suns shining!

:)

While I may have spent 5k on computers over the last 12 years, it wasn't all at once.
Kind of pay as you go plan. Not to mention all the other expences detailed above.

Ahhhh, the benefits of being old. :)  $34 per hour dual and $24 per hour wet. Soloed at 6 hrs, about 22 hrs dual and 40 hrs total on the money before check ride & SEL ticket.

I think rental or dual rates are cheap today considering inflation. Wages, gasoline, food, housing, cars etc. have all about tripled. An hour of dual time costs about the same as a golf lesson...

It costs about the same to get a driver's license in Japan as to get a SEL ticket in the U.S.  :)

When I went for the PPL it was 14.95 wet with an instructor circa 1970.

But you could chase cows and jump fences and stuff. They frown on ya'ya's now.

But I had a chance to do'um. I did.
