Rumsfield Troops Questions
« on: December 08, 2004, 10:32:18 PM »
"Albany- Disgruntled U.S. troops complained directly to Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld Wednesday that they don't have all the equipment they need.

Rumsfeld was in Kuwait to give a pep talk to soldiers headed to Iraq. But he got a talking to about Humvees by Tennessee National Guard Specialist Thomas Wilson.

"Why do we soldiers have to dig through local landfills for pieces of scrap metal and compromised ballistic glass to armor our vehicles and why don't we have those resources readily available to us?" Wilson asked Rumsfeld."

Rough day when Rumsfield can't even rely on a hall of troops for an easy photo shoot and bit of PR. Wonder when Bush's turn will come?

When they prosecute the first deserter from the war in Iraq.
Then there will be problems unseen since the 70's.
A lot of folks sending these kids into Iraq, avoided the other hell hole meat grinder -VietNam. When they try to prosecute those trying to avoid Iraq, the crap will hit the fan. The chickens always come home to roost - no one is immune, not even W.

Where's all the conservatives? They should be here backing Rummy and telling the troops in the field to quit whining.
My mind is a raging torrent, flooded with rivulets of thought cascading into a waterfall of creative alternatives.
Stay thirsty my friends.

Might want to take note these troops were reservists and National Guard and not Regular Army.

But I back the troops concerns reguardless of who they were.

As I posted in another thread among other things on the subject.

"What I want to know is why our armed forces had UNARMORED Humvees to begin with?"

and I'll be all in favor of a firing squad for anyone who deserts.

and this aint nam.

This Army is made up of people who joined of their own free will.
They werent drafted into it. Bit of a difference there.

any deserter wont receive any pity or sympathy from me.
They all knew the score and what could happen when they decided to sign on the dotted line.

Had these guys been drafted  as they were in Nam I would be of different mind.
These guys volounteered

There a bit of a difference between not getting hot chow often enough and having friends killed through negligent leadership. Just think of all those griping Sherman tank commanders or those griping German army soldiers trying to stay warm outside Moscow when the invasion didn't end by winter.

And when I see the negligent leadership you speak of. I'll agree with you

Check this out, read the email he sent out (linked within the Drudge article) and decide for yourself.  I'm pretty sketical myself of anything that Drudge "breaks" but I felt that way when he broke the Lewinski story too ;)  We'll see how this one pans out.

Amazing that those Sherman tank commanders were griping about more armor for their tanks isn't it? ;)  88mm pentrated it quite well.  Read the link above, and lets see what becomes of this.

Is there desire to armor their Jeeps (Humvees) valid? I would think so since those in the Pentagon have decided to use them in the fashion they have.  Meanwhile, this just in(-2400 B.C. ), as battles change so does the hardware...;)

But hey, the left needs SOMETHING to funnel their anger into in order to release the anger from losing the election....again...

CNN is now reporting it too.

Its a valid question, even though its sad that the press had to resort to tactics of planting the question, rather than presenting it to Rummy in the post-press conference that was scheduled, then canceled after the plant was discovered.

The question was as valid as every war we've been in, where reporters saw men die, in the equipment they trained in, not the equipment that Toad's crystal ball theory can foresee.

No, because he never deserted despite the witless circle-stroking brays of those who cannot find a single proof of their accusations.
If ye love wealth better than liberty, the tranquility of servitude than the animated contest of freedom, go from us in peace. We ask not your counsels or arms. Crouch down and lick the hands which feed you. May your chains sit lightly upon you, and may posterity forget that you were our countrymen!

Which army in which war had it turn out that every single piece of their equipment turned out to be ideally suited to every single task that appeared?

I forget... help me out here.
