The Mongols, Toad- their tatics and weapons were perfectly suited to defeat European armor and tatics. Ther ponies were more nimble, their bows were better, and tightly woven silk couldn't be cut by the relitively dull European arrows, so it was easier to treat puncture wounds.

If you get cable, check out "The Fog of War : Eleven Lessons From the Life of Robert S. McNamara." It's an autobiography of sorts, told by McNamara, about how he did Rummy's job back in the Kennedy administration - when there was some real serious stiff flying. Very, very interesting stuff.

And yet both the "Mongol Horde" and the Zulus lost. One took a bit longer to lose than the other, but both lost.

Of course we need better armored GP vehicles for Iraq. But remember those Humvees were originally painted in a Green Woodland camo pattern. You know why? Because they were designed for a different type of war.

To expect to totally reequip the force in 2 years is unrealistic. They are up-armoring which as I said before is a stopgap measure that will help but not solve the problem.

You can't expect them to wave a wand and have 30,000 mine resistant vehicles in service in a year.
